Bone Grafting
If you have a missing tooth that has never been replaced, you may be at risk of bone loss or deterioration. Pacific Dental Group wants to help you restore your oral function and smile. We use the latest techniques in bone grafting to correct this situation.
Your jawbone can deteriorate over time. This section of the jawbone then becomes unsuitable for any dental implants. Today’s technology allows dentists the opportunity to graft bone where needed to restore the functionality and appearance of your smile.
The entire bone grafting procedure usually takes months to complete. Bone is harvested from your jaw, hip or tibia and inserted into the affected spot. The new bone fuses with the existing jawbone. Adding a bone graft will help support and anchor any dental implant. During surgery, the dentist will numb the area using a local anesthetic. A small incision is made to prepare the site for the anchoring of the new bone. Sometimes, a particular membrane, or artificial skin, may be used. The layer dissolves under the gum and protects the bone graft, protects against bacteria, and encourages bone renewal. The doctor then closes the incision with stitches and allows time for healing. Our staff will provide you with instructions to help in the healing process. Once the site has fully healed, you’re ready for dental implants.
