Fluoride Applications
Fluoride treatments are effective in preventing tooth decay. Fluoride treatments prevent plaque and tartar from building up on the tooth’s surface that can harden over time.
You can find fluoride in most food and water; however, sometimes the quantity of fluoride consumed is not enough to protect your teeth from decay. At Pacific Dental Group, we recommend professional fluoride treatments.
Fluoride application is an in-office procedure performed after a dental cleaning. A fluoride solution, or gel, is placed in a tray and inserted into the mouth over your teeth or painted directly onto your teeth. After the procedure, we advise you refrain from eating or drinking for a few hours. We suggest our patients have additional fluoride treatments regularly to prevent decay to maintain a healthy and strong.
In addition to professional fluoride treatments, brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day and using an over-the-counter fluoride product can help prevent plaque or tartar from settling on your teeth. When selecting an at-home fluoride treatment such as toothpaste or mouthwash, make sure to check the label for the American Dental Association’s (ADA) seal of approval. Products with the ADA seal are both safe and effective.
